Jack Endino, 19 Dec '97 (night)
"I will very possibly be at the show tonight, but it's in a
small club and if it gets too claustrophobic my wife and I probably won't
stay for the whole thing... that's assuming we can even get in the door, it
might be pretty crowded. We'll see; that's what was so good about those
"Underdog" shows, you sorta had to be paying attention to realize Mudhoney
was playing, but this show is in a smaller club and there's been tons of
publicity..."
Jack Endino, 19 Dec '97 (morning)
"We're planning on recording [the new LP] in Seattle this January with
Jim Dickinson producing and Adam Caspar engineering. It probably won't
come out until the summer or early fall."
"We'll release the B-side comp after the new record comes out (then
there'll be more good unreleased songs to choose from). We've got about
25 songs that we're going to record (3 covers) so there'll be plenty
left over."
"Check out the Cheater Slicks new double CD "Forgive Thee" on In the
Red. It's great!"
Mark Arm, 29 Oct '97
"Mudhoney are getting ready to record a new album, due next spring on Warner
Bros. They'll be doing it in Memphis with Jim Dickinson at the helm. Dickinson
has worked with Big Star and Alex Chilton and once played piano for the
Stones."
The Seattle Rocket, 23 Oct '97
"[Asked if the next show was actually scheduled for Oct 31]
How the hell do you hear this stuff? Yes, that show got confirmed late
last week. We're playing with KARP and The Murder City Devils. Halloween,
ooh scary."
Mark Arm, 10 Oct '97
"We [The Fall-Outs]
are looking looking and not finding a bass player. Know anyone? It's
not that we can't find one, but the good ones Rusty from Flop, Ben from
Hater/Soundgarden, Steve/Mud etc., are all too busy. We might put out an album
by ourselves, just me and Davey. Problem is, then we couldn't tour."
"The new web site
changes all the times as I get more stuff. And as soon as I learn more HTML
and scanner-lingo I'll have picture galore gorey."
Dino Lencioni, 1 Oct '97
"Valis are playing with the mighty Fu Manchu @ the OK Hotel on October 25."
Mark Arm, 29 Sept '97
(This is, hopefully, the definitive date for the show, originally scheduled
for Sept 28)
"Don't know any more about Mudhoney than you already saw on
my page.
They have the songs but I don't know their recording plans. I don't think
they include me, but heck, I did three of their records, they gotta try
other people."
Jack Endino, 19 Sept '97
"Yes, Valis is playing the 28th. It's
a benefit for someone who got seriously injured in a motorcycle accident and
has no insurance."
Mark Arm, 17 Sept '97
"We [Bloodloss] have
been recording a little bit here and there since last November.
Reprise won't put it out until after the next Mudhoney album. So there's
nothing coming out in the near future.
"[Talking about the many Wilde Rattz
songs that won't be insered in the "Velvet Goldmine" soundtrack]
There are plans to do some more recordings and release them."
"Beneath the Valley of the Underdog
is playing Saturday August 30 with the Urinals and Wellwater
Conspiracy at the Crocodile Cafe in Seattle. You should check both out.
The Urinals are a seminal,
underappreciated LA punk band from 78 to 81. Amphetamine Reptile just
released a CD that pretty much collects everything. They became 100 Flowers
because their music was changing and they felt the name th Urinals was no
longer appropriate. There's a great CD which has all the 100 Flowers songs
(except one). I can't remember who put it out. Super Electro released the
Wellwater Conspiracy on vinyl, it's great (one of my favorite SE recordings).
Someone else (I'm not sure who, but Steve can tell you), put out the CD."
Mark Arm, 11 July '97
(The Wellwater Conspiracy CD is available on Third Gear Records, PO Box 1886, Royal
Oak, MI 48068)
"[Talking about a Thrown Ups reunion]
I think it's pretty unlikely. But we're all still friends. If there
was a really cool show and everyone was in the right mood, it could still
happen. We did get together for a photo shoot a couple months ago for a
magazine article and we all had fun."
John "Seighton" Beezer, 6 July '97
(John kindly sent me that recent photo,
but it's strictly © so no commercial use is allowed, got it?)
"We just returned from Austin where we played Emo's 5th anniversary with the
Lord High Fixers (Tim from Monkeywrench,
Big Boys, Poison 13, Jack o' Fire, etc. latest outfit) and Raleigh where we
played our T-shirt company's 10th anniversary with Sonic Youth and Redd Kross."
"We're playing around town a bit, sometimes as Mudhoney and other times as
Beneath the Valley of the Underdog (one of
our new songs). When we're Beneath the Valley of the Underdog we only play
brand new songs that we're trying to whip into shape before we record our
next album this fall. This is the first time we've played a set of all
unreleased songs since 1988. It's a blast."
Mark Arm, 3 July '97
"Dan's playing in Valis,
with Van Conner, and Kurt Danielson -it's pretty rocking stuff.
And Mudhoney has been working on tons of new songs to record in
August, for a new record! We've even got some shows around town lined
up. Mark's working hard with Bloodloss,
too. And Matt's brewing beer, working on models, and watching a lot of European
soccer. I've been putting out a few Super
Electro releases, riding my bike, searching out the rare Punk records
and boning up on proper lawn care."
